The workshop of Household Liquid Waste Treatment System Using the Adsorption Method of Natural Materials has been conducted in Rangkasbitung District, Lebak Regency, 3rd of Sept. 2021. This program is a community service and participation of German alumni to public. It is aimed to provide insight and gain the community’s ability to process household liquid waste. Later, the liquid waste can still be used for watering plants so as to make the environment more beautiful and greener.
In this activity, the Indonesian Alumni & Returning Experts Network (JARI) collaborated with partners from Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University in Banten. It is also supported by the Regional Planning, Research and Development Agency of Lebak Regency, so that there is a multiplier effect from this activity and can be followed-up further to the wider community.
Rangkasbitung Sub-district was chosen as the Banten regional representative of the workshop. Rangkasbitung (colloquially called Rangkas) is a large town which contains the administrative centre of Lebak Regency, in Banten Province of Java, Indonesia. It has a population of 134,950 at the 2020 Census. The town lies on the road connecting Jakarta, Serpong and Pandeglang. It is also connected with western railway line of Java, connecting Jakarta with Serang until Merak.
Eduard Douwes Dekker or Multatuli, the author of Max Havelaar, once lived and worked in the town. His experience and observation during his time here triggered him to write the famous romance. Eugenia van Beers, the mother of American rock musicians Eddie van Halen and Alex van Halen was born in this town.
The workshop was namely: “Counseling of Household Liquid Waste Treatment System Using Natural Material Adsorption Method in Lebak Regency – Banten”. This sub-district will highlight the beauty with shades of green plants and environmental cleanliness to encourage the implementation of the Lebak Regency Mission to Improve Environmental Quality and tourism development.
This program gives residents of Rangkasbitung District some knowledge about how to treat household liquid waste with simple tools based on natural materials. Thus, the community will have the skills and insight to manage household liquid waste so that it does not interfere with their daily water needs. Through this community service, the advisors can provide solutions in fulfilling household liquid waste management so that it does not interfere and cause pollution to the community.
